Dealing with Reston Realtors |Real Estate Articles Reston ...

Whether you want to buy or sell property in Reston, an experienced local Realtor from a respected real estate company can help you. Before selecting a Reston Realtor, however, it?s important to learn a few general things about realtors.

What real estate agent do you need?

There are several kinds of real estate agents in Reston, each able to help you with certain aspects of the property buying or selling process.

  • Brokers ? Brokers are licensed by the state of Virginia to buy or sell Reston properties.
  • Agents ? Agents connect Reston property sellers with prospective customers. Agents work under a broker, to which they pay a portion of their commissions.
  • Realtors ? Realtors are agents or brokers who follow an ethical code issued by the Board of Realtors, a code that goes beyond the boundaries of the state license laws. It?s because of realtors that we have the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) in Reston.

What types of real estate agents are there?

For some time now real estate agents have specialized in the listing process (listing agents) or the buying process (buyer?s agents). There are also plenty dual agents who list properties for sale as well as search for properties for their clients.

Choosing between listing agents and buyer?s agents obviously depends on whether you?re selling or buying property. Usually, your safest best is to work without a dual agency relationship because in this way you avoid the agent having conflicting interests.

On what criteria should I choose my Reston realtor?

A good Reston realtor is experienced, has a long history of working on the Reston property market, and demands reasonable fees. Regardless of whether you?re buying or selling, you?ll want an expert who preferably knows the neighborhood or area where the property is located.

When it comes to real estate, the best deals are secured by local Realtors, those familiar with the area in which they operate. Outsider Realtors, no matter how shrewd, cannot as easily spot real estate opportunities. Ultimately, you need someone who?s in the field previewing houses and who is aware of the latest developments in the local real estate market.

Want to buy or sell Reston condos, apartments, or townhouses? Choose an experienced and knowledgeable Reston Realtor and you?ll avoid major difficulties during the selling or buying process.

Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2 (32GB)

The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2 (32GB, $80 street) represents the latest incarnation of the humble flash drive, but it ramps up the possibilities with 32GB of space, a fast USB 3.0 connection, and a chunky plastic enclosure protecting the drive against bumps, bangs, and crushing. With the 32GB version selling for $75 (street), the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2 is also available in 16GB ($50 street), and 64GB ($142 street) capacities.

Design
The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 has a rugged enclosure of white plastic and brushed aluminum. Though it may not be as tough as the Corsair Flash Survivor (32GB) ($229.99 list, 3.5 stars), a removable cap keeps out dirt, grime, and moisture, and a solid loop on the back end of the drive secures it when attached to a key ring or lanyard. The drive weighs 1.6 ounces and measures 0.6 by 0.9 by 2.9 inches (HWD), which is wide enough that it may crowd out other drives when plugged into a USB port. The last is not an uncommon problem with larger-capacity drives, which are often larger physically as well, such as the Kingston DataTraveler 150 (32GB) ($60 street, 4 stars).

In addition to the problem of port blockage, the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 has two other potential design problems. The first is the plastic cap that covers the USB connector. Though it snaps securely into place when covering the USB plug, it doesn't stay so secure when it's put on the back end. Even more problematic is the fact that though the drive itself can be added to key ring or lanyard, there's no tethering loop for the cap, making it extremely easy to lose, a problem previously seen on the Editors' Choice OCZ Rally2 Turbo USB 2.0 Flash Drive (32GB) ($102.99 list, 4.5 stars). The other problem is heat. The plastic and aluminum body of the DataTraveler got noticeably warm when transferring large volumes of data. While it may not reach temperatures hot enough to be dangerous, it's certainly one detail that left us worried.

The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 offers plenty of storage space, but $75 might seem steep for a flash drive?it works out to $2.34 per gigabyte, compared to the $40 price tag on the 32GB Corsair Flash Voyager ($1.25 per GB).

Features and Performance
The drive features USB 3.0 technology, which offers more than twice the speeds delivered by USB 2.0. If a USB 3.0 port is unavailable, however, the connection is backwards compatible?it will work with any existing USB connection of any speed. In addition to fast data transfer, the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2 (G2) also offers considerable storage capacity. The 32GB model, for example, is estimated to hold more than 6,000 MP3s or more than 6,400 10-megapixel photos. Kingston backs the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 (32GB) with a five-year warranty and offers free 24/7 tech support.

In actual testing, the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 produced impressive performance, with write speeds of 61.8MB/sec and read speeds of 99.4MB/sec in our timed file-transfer tests. Though not quite up to Kingston's advertised speeds (70MBps write, 100MBps read), the DataTraveler Ultimate is still a very fast flash drive. Even when slowed by a USB 2.0 connection, the performance was decent, with 32.1MBps read and 28.0MBps write speeds. By comparison, the USB 3.0-equipped Corsair Flash Voyager produced identical scores using USB 2.0, but only managed 34.5MBps write and 63.4MBps read when plugged into a USB 3.0 port.

The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate Generation 2 offers a high-capacity drive with speedy performance and a rough-and-tumble design, but does that justify the price? If you need both the capacity and the speed offered by the DataTraveler Ultimate, then yes; people who work with rich media like music and video will definitely want to pony up the $75 for this beefy drive. For everyone else, however, the price may be just too steep. Either way, in the realm of USB 3.0 flash drives, the performance bar has been set.

COMPARISON TABLE
Compare the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2 (32GB) with several other flash drives side by side.

Reasons You Should Get A New Pair Of ... - New Health and Fitness

New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

Wearing glasses daily has become a common occurrence for many people. Some people begin wearing glasses as early as childhood while others develop vision problems later on. None the less, glasses are such an essential part of ones life that they easily become a part of their daily wardrobe. The problem some eyeglass wearers have is that they will keep the same pair of glasses much, much longer than they should.

They may be trying to avoid the expense of new eyeglasses, they may find the current pair comfortable, or they may just be too lazy to bother making an appointment, but the end result is the same. Keeping your old glasses and wearing them for longer than you should may cause your eyes some harm and you some discomfort down the road. If you wear eyeglasses, it?s always a good idea to watch for signs that it?s time to replace them and get a new pair.

Having vision issues is probably one of the main signs that you need to go in and replace your eyeglasses. If you notice that your farsightedness, nearsightedness or astigmatism is starting to affect your vision with your eyeglasses on, it?s probably because your prescription has changed. For many people with vision problems, the current state of your vision won?t always be the current state of your vision. Over time, you may need a stronger prescription, so if you notice that your vision is a little blurred or you?re straining to see while wearing your eyeglasses, it?s time to replace them.

The frames of your eyeglasses are the other part that will tell you if you need to get a replacement pair. Obvious damage like splits and cracks in the frame are definite signs. Holding the frame together with tape isn?t going to help you with vision correction over the long term. Subtle changes in how the frames of your eyeglasses fit your face may also be a sign that it?s time for a replacement. Just as clothing will fit differently with weight gain or weight loss, so too will eyeglass frames. If you?ve lost a few pounds and they start sliding off your face, go in for a replacement. If you?ve gained a few pounds and they are squeezing your nose or temples, go in for a replacement. Children who wear eyeglasses will also have to go in for replacements from time to time as they continue to grow.

If your eyeglasses aren?t causing you any problems, meaning they?re still comfortable and you can see clearly, don?t ignore your yearly eye exams. If you?re seeing fine with your current prescription, chances are everything is fine, but it still makes sense to go in and find out for sure. Subtle changes in your vision will still require slightly stronger prescription and a new pair of eyeglasses. You only have two eyes, so take care of them and show them the respect they deserve. Wear your cheap eyeglasses diligently and pay attention to your body when it tells you that you need new ones.

Find the right contact lens at the right price! Whether you have astigmatism, dry eyes or poor vision, you?ll find what you?re looking for.

Scripps Florida Scientists Uncover Inflammatory Circuit That Triggers Breast Cancer

Home Reports Life Sciences Content
next article
24.02.2012

Although it?s widely accepted that inflammation is a critical underlying factor in a range of diseases, including the progression of cancer, little is known about its role when normal cells become tumor cells.

Now, scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute have shed new light on exactly how the activation of a pair of inflammatory signaling pathways leads to the transformation of normal breast cells to cancer cells.

The study, led by Jun-Li Luo, an assistant professor at Scripps Florida, was published online before print by the journal Molecular Cell on February 23, 2012.

The scientists? discovery points to the activation of a self-sustaining signaling circuit that inhibits a specific RNA, a well-known tumor suppressor that helps limit the spread of cancer (metastasis). Therapies that disable this circuit and halt this miRNA repression could have the potential to treat cancer.

The Spark that Ignites Trouble

In the new study, scientists identified the specific pathways that transform breast epithelial cells into active cancer cells.

The researchers found immune/inflammatory cells ignite the transient activation of MEK/ERK and IKK/NF-kB pathways; the MEK/ERK pathway then directs a consistent activation of a signaling circuit in transformed cells. This consistent signaling circuit maintains the malignant state of the tumor cells.

Luo compares this process to starting a car?a car battery starts the engine much like the transient signal activation turns on the consistent signal circuit. Once the engine is started, it no longer needs the battery.

The scientists go on to show that the initial activation of these pathways also activates IL6, a cytokine involved in a number of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including cancer. IL6 acts as a tumor initiator, sparking the self-sustaining circuit in normal breast cells necessary for the initiation and maintenance of their transformed malignant state.

In establishing that self-sustaining signal circuit, IL6 represses the action of microRNA-200c, which is responsible for holding down inflammation and cell transformation. Since enhanced microRNA-200c expression impairs the growth of existing cancer cells and increases their sensitivity to anti-tumor drugs, compounds that disable microRNA-200c repression have the potential to act as a broad-spectrum therapeutic.

Interestingly, the new findings dovetail with the ?multiple-hits theory? of tumor formation, which posits that once normal cells in the human body accumulate enough pre-cancerous mutations, they are at high-risk for transformation into tumor cells. While the newly described initial pathway activation is momentary and not enough to cause any lasting changes in cell behavior, it may be just enough to tip the cell?s transformation to cancer, especially if it comes on top of an accumulation of other cellular changes.

The first author of the study, ?IL6-Mediated Suppression of Mir-200c Directs Constitutive Activation of an Inflammatory Signaling Circuit That Drives Transformation and Tumorigenesis,? is Matjaz Rokavec of Scripps Research. Other authors include Weilin Wu, also of Scripps Research.

The study was supported by the National Institute of Health, the United States Department of Defense, the Florida Department of Health, and Frenchman?s Creek Women for Cancer Research.

First Look: Survey Warns Of Consumers Turning Off From Digital Ads

on off switchWith all the developments we?ve seen in online advertising over the years, you?d have thought that someone would have figured out how to put a halt to what must be one of the biggest issues of all: people are getting fed up with digital ads. A new report from YouGov, commissioned by mobile marketing company Upstream, spells out some of the problems: people feel like there are too many ads and that they are too pervasive. And the situation, it seems, is a vicious circle. Users are engaging with ads less and less: response rates that were at an average of seven percent in 1997 have today plummeted down to 0.1 percent for an average online ad.

Affordable Family Holiday Spots This Easter | Internet Holiday Finder ...

Why spend the Easter holidays at home?? Consider taking advantage of the warmer spring weather and the longer daylight hours if you are of a mind to have a short break in the UK.? If you decide to travel abroad you can take advantage of cheaper travel and accommodation rates on offer at that time of the year. You can choose from any number of exciting and affordable destinations in Europe, all with numerous tourist attractions and some with seasonal celebrations taking place.

Czech Republic

Owing to its frequent use as a filming location for many hit movies, the Czech Republic has an air of familiarity about it.? Rustic and beautiful, the country has plenty to offer the travelling family.

Eastertime in the capital, Prague, features traditional folk dancing; some of the residents dress in regional ethnic costume.? The celebratory atmosphere carries over into the Prague Easter market.? Located in the Old Town Square, the market has more than 100 stalls selling handmade goods, crafts, toys, Czech crystal, regional foods and beer, and beautiful hand-painted Easter eggs.

France and Belgium

Easter in France and Belgium includes religious events and celebrations over this very important weekend in the calendar of the Christian Church.? However, there are many other attractions for families to enjoy in both these countries.

Bruges is Europe?s capital of chocolate.? Every year, this charming Belgian city features breathtaking displays of Easter sweets and goodies in its 50 chocolate shops. Master Chocolatiers work throughout the city to provide an Easter feast for the ardent chocolate lover.? With an interesting chocolate museum to visit and its well-known reputation for the finer things in life, Bruges is a luxurious and indulgent city in which to spend an Easter break.

In France, Easter egg hunts are held throughout Easter Sunday and Easter Monday at the The Chateau Vaux Le Vicomte, located just outside Paris.? In addition to the Easter egg hunt, the chateau also offers chocolate making classes, origami, face painting for the children and other attractions. Another Paris option is to take part in Galeries Lafayette?s Big Easter Hunt. Over the course of an hour, children can scour the store searching for shiny wrapped eggs and delicious chocolate beans, trying to find every one before the Grande Chase aux Oeufs is over.

Other good Easter holiday options in France and Belgium include taking an idyllic cottage in the countryside or an end-of-season ski holiday in the Alps.

Istanbul

Turkey may seem an unusual choice for Easter holidays but thousands of Eastern European immigrants have brought their Christian traditions and festivals, including Easter, to this country and its capital city, Istanbul.

Thousands of Bulgarians from the immigrant community celebrate Easter in Istanbul with a Mass traditionally held at the Church of St. Stefan.? Some worshipers travel all the way from Bulgaria to attend the Easter Mass and to spend the holiday there. Traditional rituals are observed, including walking around the church three times, exchanging coloured eggs and kozunak, the Easter bread.

Tours of religious sites, ethnic neighbourhoods and delicious regional food all combine to make Turkey, and especially Istanbul, a wonderful family destination for Easter holidays.

Holiday deals

Once you and your family have decided on a location for your Easter break, you will want to find the best deal possible.? Online travel sites, travel agencies and community and city websites are great places to start.? Whether you are looking for an all-inclusive ski trip, a decadent Bruges weekend or excellent cheap holidays in Turkey, you are sure to find some good discounts and a selection of attractive holidays from which to choose.

Q&A: Screenwriter Chris McCoy, Part 2 | Go Into The Story

Chris McCoy is pretty unique among screenwriters in that he has three scripts that have made the Black List: ?Get Back? (2007), ?Good Looking? (2009), and ?Good Kids? (2011). That alone is enough to warrant significant curiosity about this young writer. The fact his screenplays are highly entertaining, distinctive, and filled with quirky characters and strong dialogue makes it even more so. Therefore I was quite happy when Chris agreed to do a GITS Q&A.

In this 5-part series, which will run today through Friday, we cover Chris? background as a writer, reflections about each of his Black List scripts, and his insight into the craft of screenwriting.

Let?s look at each of these three scripts starting with ?Get Back? which made the Black List in 2007. Here is a logline I found: ?Centered on the discovery of a time machine by two die-hard Beatles fans, who travel back in time to prevent John Lennon from meeting Yoko Ono, who they blame for the break-up of the Fab Four.? How did you come up with that story concept? What about it made you think, This is a movie?

I started Get Back when I was broke, had no manager or agent, and I was still working eleven-hour days at CAA. I was out surfing with my roommate on a weekend, and we were talking about music because we?re both big music fans, in addition to being atrocious surfers. So we were hiding from the waves, talking about the Beatles, and I told him ? ?I?m going to solve this John and Yoko thing once and for all.? I just thought it was a funny idea.

The nice thing about being certain that you?re doomed for failure ? as I was at the time ? is that you can kinda write what you want, because hey, nobody is going to see it anyway. I essentially wrote ?Get Back? to make my friends laugh and solve one of rock and roll?s burning questions, and then when I got my manager Shawn Simon, I gave it to her and she did amazing things when it came to getting the script out there.

Get Back taught me that it?s far better to write to make your friends laugh, rather than trying to write to make everybody laugh. There?s a Kurt Vonnegut quote about this that I love:

?Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.?

That is so great.

After you came up with that core concept, can you remember how other major story elements emerged. For example how did you decide on Ted and Piero as the lead characters, and what was key in your mind about their buddy dynamic? How did you come up with the Parliament/Funkadelic Mothership time travel machine?

There was a record store called ?Spinnaker Records? in my hometown that I went to all the time, which is the name of the store in the script, and I just sort of modeled Ted on the guys I saw working there. ?High Fidelity? nailed the record store clerk mindset, and I?d be lying if I said I didn?t use that movie as a reference point when I was constructing my characters. For the Piero character, I used the name of my friend Piero from college ? again, when you think that nobody is going to read your script, you can do whatever you want.

The buddy dynamic I was going for with the two of them was that of a couple of guys who both thought they had been born at the wrong time in history, but for different reasons. One guy thinks that he would have been able to participate in the culture of the sixties, while the other guy thinks he would have been able to get girls. Both of them end up being right, in their own way.

As for the Mothership, when I was outlining the script, I was trying to think of a rock and roll way to get these guys back to 1966 in a ?rock and roll? kind of way, and it just sort of popped into my head ? the Mothership!

So I started researching the Mothership, and I discovered that the original Mothership had indeed been lost somewhere out in the woods in Maryland, which I thought was the single funniest thing I?d ever read ? arguably the most famous prop in the history of rock and roll, and when the band ran out of money, one of their roadies hauled it away and ended up losing it.

So I built the whole first act around these guys tramping through the Maryland woods, searching for the Mothership because they think finding it will solve all their problems. And then when they do find it and get it working? it turns out it?s a time machine that runs on funk. People have always seemed to respond to that logic ? the band was from Motown and knew guys who built cars, and everybody was taking a lot of LSD at the time. Building cars + LSD = time machine.

How much research did you do about England in 1966? About John Lennon, Yoko Ono and The Beatles?

A ton. I basically lived at the Santa Monica Public Library while I was writing that script, reading everything I could find. I wanted their voices to feel authentic, and I was focused on capturing the mood of Carnaby Street and the energy of the time.

There?s a Forrest Gump type dynamic to the story in that Ted and Piero intersect with a whole host of actual historical figures such as The Beatles, George Martin, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and James Brown. Was that something you realized early on you could exploit or did that emerge later in your writing process?

I realized it early on. Writing that script was wish-fulfillment of the highest form: What would I do if I was around during this time? I realized I would probably mess everything up, and that?s what went into the script. It?s such a natural source of conflict, interacting with your heroes when you?re not supposed to.

From a writing standpoint, what was the biggest challenge in crafting this story?

Because people have such preconceived notions about Yoko Ono, it was a challenge to turn her into a love interest. I worked hard to show why Lennon loved her, which allowed me to show why my protagonist would have fallen in love with her too.

I thought one of the funniest bits in the script is how Ted?s plan to separate Yoko and John backfires so that via an iPod, Ted and Piero can see some Beatles songs ?in an alternate future including titles like ?Love, Love, Superlove (Rainbow)?. Did you just come up with those titles or could you hear some version of those songs in your mind? And how much fun was it thinking of early Wings-type, McCartney influenced song titles?

Some of those titles are real! For instance: ?Rudolph the Red Nosed Reggae? is the B-side to the single of ?Wonderful Christmastime.? Because it?s a Christmas song, it might have been a little unfair for me to include it with those other titles, but I couldn?t help myself.

But yes, even though Paul McCartney is a legend, it was fun to come up with alternate Wings song titles. Things kind of went off the rails for all the Beatles in the mid-70s.

What?s the status of ?Get Back??

Ask me in a couple of weeks. It was at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment until recently, but the option lapsed, so now we?re looking at other places for it. Getting a movie made is hard.

Work Comp Roundup - Reduce Your Workers Compensation ...

EVERY CLAIM HAS A FIRST WEEK. Right!

?

We all know that, it is obvious. What else would you call the seven days which follow an accident? And how, barring the end of the world, would you not have a first week? But that is not the message of this piece.

?

?

The first week following an accident is a one-time period for opportunity. A diligent employer can, in those first seven days, shape the outcome of a claim so that all (in this case, the employer and employee) will benefit. The ?losers? will be those who stand to gain from inefficiency, which is to say, everyone else in the claims process. [WCx]

?

?

Why is the first week so important? The law requires some things to be done rather quickly (filing an employer?s report of injury) but most can surely wait until the carrier does them ? can?t they? The technical answer is, ?Yes.??The smart answer is, ?No!?

?

?

Every claim does have a first week- but none have two of them. Once the first week passes without action it can never be regained ? and the first week is exclusively the employer?s. A carrier cannot effectively get started defending a claim until several weeks passes from when it is notified.

?

?

What should the employer do in this period? Oversee the care of the employee and gather facts. The first is not optional ? at least not in NY.

?

?

?Most people who work in the comp field in NY are surprised to learn that the comp law places an affirmative responsibility on the part of the EMPLOYER (no one else is mentioned) to see that an injured employee receives proper medical care. ?That does not mean selecting a treating doctor (although that was actually done in the first decades of the comp law), but it does mean that the employer should not be passive if the employee is obviously not getting the treatment needed.

?

?

The other responsibility which should be attended to by the employer is gathering a forwarding (to the Board, the carrier, the treating doctor and the worker) information and documents which will be needed (payroll, details of accident) or which might be needed (prior injuries, claims, employers, medical plans, periods of significant absence, etc.).

?

?

The last, documents which might be needed, puzzles many employers. If the information is not requested, why would it ever be needed? The answer is that if others do not know the information exists ? why would they request it? True, they should ask what other information exists ? but in the real world they usually do not. Nothing will increase an x-mod faster than the useful information which remains silent and uninvited, sitting in a file cabinet drawer (or in cyberspace).

?

?

Finally, there is the therapeutic aspect of purposeful activity. A worker, and the worker?s family, is all too frequently struggling through a morass of silence and indifference during the first weeks. The person closest to them, the employer, seems to be uninvolved in the claim. Many employers are under the impression that they are REQUIRED to be out of the loop. ?The carrier has to do that.? In truth, the comp law mentions the employer frequently and the carrier hardly at all ? except as surety for payment of awards. [WCx]

?

?

In short, it is difficult for an employer to be over involved in a claim. Or over concerned about the welfare of an employee. And the best time to become involved and concerned is ? the first week.

Teleselling Mistakes: 5 Things To Avoid When Making A Sales Call ...

Most organizations immediately are conscious that telesales is a vital a part of a company?s general sales and marketing effort. Sales agents must also?guitar center coupons understand that too much asking solely brings them to no good. Keep the questions easy closed and to the naked essentials only.

4.) Poor Preparation. Before making a sales call, telesales agents ought to positively do their research first. One other good technique to avoid the primary three mistakes is by attending to know their potential clients in advance. By using the internet, it is doable for sales agents to know who to look for, what to supply or even if they need to make the decision within the first place.

5.) Opening Statements that Construct Resistance, Not Interest. For some gross sales agents, they nonetheless find it not possible to even get the knowledge they need even when they did their research and requested the proper questions at the proper time. So, what went mistaken? The first few seconds of the phone call is essential as a result of that is the place they provide out their opening statements. Review: PlayStation Vita, a handheld gaming powerhouse - Neowin ...

The PlayStation Vita is the latest system released under Sony?s PlayStation brand and was released on the 15th February providing First Edition bundles were pre-ordered. The console aims to revolutionize the way games are played and allows players to bring home console standards in the palm of the their hands; to some extent the console meets these expectations. I was fortunate enough to recieve the console at the Japanese launch two months prior, so this review should give readers and idea of what to expect from Sony's new portable system.

Straight out of the box, you will be attracted to the ?Crystal Black? finish of the device, as well as the classic sexy matte silver trim. The console is as gorgeous as it could get but I can't help but feel that more colour variations should have been available. The five inch OLED display will have you dribbling and the thumb stick will rid you of bodily fluids before you even turn the system on.

However, with the extra thumb-stick incorporated, the X, square, circle and triangle buttons have been dramatically downsized. This means, those users with big hands and fingers will have a rough time playing comfortably. Despite this problem, the button layout itself is well-executed and does work with all games without feeling unbearably uncomfortable.

As a part of improving the controls, Sony added a noticeable ?clicking? mechanism to the buttons. This mechanism allows the user to get appropriate feedback from the system and the software alike when using the buttons.

The rear touch-panel is also very innovative and could be the biggest ?wow-factor? of the device. For one example, Uncharted: Golden Abyss has various sniping segments which involve swiping fingers up and down the rear touch-panel to zoom in and out. This feature feels fun and necessary to have; in-fact the PlayStation Vita will make you a believer in commercial touch and motion gaming.

Layer upon layer, the PlayStation Vita?s interior is just as beautiful. Despite being densely packed, the interior actually seems a lot cleaner, more organized and generally stunning as opposed to other handhelds like the PSP and 3DS. This is doesn?t have much relevance to the now, but it?s great to know for the future if the console breaks after warranty expires in a year?s time.

The PlayStation Vita almost seems like its Sony?s way of falcon-punching the competition and is a complete powerhouse when compared to the 3DS. The device features an ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core CPU clocked at 2 GHz, as well as a four-core PowerVR SGX543MP4+ GPU and 512 MB of RAM. Aside from this, the console sports a unique and innovative rear touchpad, a four-point Gyro-sensor, two 0.3 megapixel cameras (one front-facing and one rear-facing) and the 5 inch OLED touchscreen (mentioned previously).?

The OLED screen has a resolution of 960 x 544 (double the PSP resolution and close to HD) which I was disappointed about at first but despite that, the display and graphics still look phenomenal and the device will still play HD video formats. The screen does support multi-touch to some extent but we?ve only been able to try out pinch-to-zoom; however in-game the rear touchpad does multi-touch just fine, so it?s not a complete loss.

The console itself is surprisingly light, considering the size of the device; it?s only about half an inch bigger in both width and length than the PSP slim. The Wi-Fi model version of the system weighs in at 260g and the 3G model weighs in at 279g.

Introducing Home Screen and LiveArea

The most fundamental part of being able to operate a system is the user interface, so we?ll talk about the operating system and its attributes and features first. Home screen is the core of Sony?s new OS and allows users to access different applications and maximum ease. With a tap or a slide of a finger, users can fully interact with a unique interface which is a little short of phenomenal.

The inability to optionally use physical buttons on the entire interface is a little disappointing, but there isn?t a need to: the touchscreen system is super-responsive and generally practical to use.

Applications such as ?Welcome Park? will aid new users to learn and understand how to fully utilize the PlayStation Vita?s features. Welcome Park also features trophies and mini games so the experience seems less tedious than reading; I mean who reads manuals?

Aside from this, LiveArea works alongside the Home Screen and is simply efficiency at its finest. LiveArea is essentially a sided tab which allows scrolling to and from the Home Screen and multiple applications that the user may have ?tabbed? in the background. This means that when you?re in a game, you can access or ?kill? these tabbed pages by pressing the PS button without a loss in battery or performance (this only works with some applications though). This is simply, multi-tasking at its finest and one of the greatest advantages of this console.

Another great feature is the addition of party chat: a system that allows text or voice chat with groups of friends on PSN. This isn?t anything new but it?s quite nice to see some compatibility with the PlayStation 3. Apart from that, if you and your Vita friends are online, you can cross-game chat too.

Trophies also return with a new display and a brand new look. Users also have the option of accessing combined PS3 and Vita trophy information from their PlayStation Network account or just Vita trophy information from the system.

Twitter, Skype and Facebook integration will be available at launch or around the launch window, which is good for any gamer on the move and perhaps a reason to get the 3G model. Trophy to Facebook support still works in exactly the same manner as it does on the PS3: just enable it in account settings, sync from your trophy page and it?ll post the trophies obtained to Facebook every time you sync.

The browser is an awful attempt at delivering a solid browsing experience for users and that doesn?t come at a surprise after using the PS3 browser. However, despite it being a little fidgety, it?s pretty quick to get the hang of things. Then again, in the six years since the PSP?s launch, it still amazes me why PlayStation hasn?t made or outsourced a far more decent browser. There?s nothing innovative included in the browser, but the touchscreen keys make typing a hell of a lot easier than the PSP and PS3.

Also, if you are wondering how I?m taking such clear screenshots of the system and its applications, then it is because the console allows screenshotting throughout PlayStation Vita applications. This feature will not work when playing PSP games.

PSP Backwards compatibility works surprisingly well and does make games look somewhat nicer despite a little graphical tearing. There are currently 275 titles that will be available from the Vita?s PSN store but I discovered certain PSP games which are downloadable from the PS3 may work on the Vita, such as Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters below:

Most, if not all PlayStation Vita games will also be available both as physical Vita cartridges and digital download from PSN, which is a push in the right direction for gamers who like digitally owning games. It would seem that Sony has really thought out the content and availability of its games and this makes me quite happy to know that I have access to exactly the same software as retailers do. The launch title information can be read here.

More recently, video recording was enabled which means you can record in standard definition. It would have been better if the device could record in HD but regardless, it?s a nice feature to have but I believe most people would still prefer to record from their phones or camera?s due to the Vita's low-resolution recording.

Google Maps works as it does on a mobile device; it will gather data from your locations and give you maps and directions to new places. The application is very practical to 3G users but seeing as I have the WiFi model, I didn?t particularly like it was that useful as I can't use it outside my house.

The battery life is equal to that of the 3DS which isn't bad considering how much more powerful this system is; however this isn?t a case for others and there have been mixed results. The device can run up to five hours from 50-100% brightness with Wi-Fi turned on during this session and that time doesn?t include sleep mode times, but I could imagine getting an extra hour or two more with airplane mode turned on.

My battery life seemed shorter when I was playing Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which for some reason squeezes more juice from the battery. After I discovered this, I realized battery life was completely down to the games you play and how long for, so if you?re playing anything less hardware demanding than Uncharted, then your battery should be a little better.

It?s still disappointing to see no external battery due to the rear touch panel, but I feel there could have been an external slide-out component for the batteries. It?s truly a disappointment because it means there won?t be an improved battery like what we saw with the PSP but are more likely to see an ugly, chunky add-on grip (or something like that) for this gorgeous device.

Nevertheless, it will take around 2 hours and 40 minutes to charge an empty battery so that isn?t too bad.

What the PlayStation Vita doesn't do

  • The PlayStation Vita does not play games in HD which is quite a big deal considering how tight competition in the gaming department has been in the past year with tablets upping resolutions.
  • The console will not natively play PSOne games at launch, despite Amazon currently having that feature falsely advertised on its site. I have heard however that it will be implemented at a later date.
  • Although I said the PlayStation Vita will not play PSOne games natively at launch, you can play them via remote play from a PS3. However, this is about the only thing that works when selecting remote play, as PS3 games currently do not work with remote play on the Vita. The Verdict

The PlayStation Vita has more pro?s than cons and for all the technical aspects, and the Wi-Fi model is worth the ?229/US$250 retail price; even if you?d prefer the 3G model, it?s probably still worth the ?279/US$299. Before you make that decisiont, note that you can tether Wi-Fi from your smartphone if it supports Wi-Fi hotspots. Something else to consider is that the 3G model has has a more accurate Geolocation system and should recieve exclusive games in future?which utilize the geolocation feature. However, this won?t be too much of an important factor, regardless.

This console is what I?d consider an ?innovative persuader?. The PlayStation Vita will make the most button-bashing gamers enjoy motion and touch controls and gives the player the option of using physical buttons in-game at same time. It is games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss that really make the Vita stand out from the other handheld consoles and tablets.

The 5 inch OLED screen supports multi-touch and simply looks and feels fantastic. Graphics appear crisp and you can easily tell that from the Uncharted screens that I shot throughout this review.

Sure, the browser sucks and the buttons are a little small, but those things are minor when you consider how well the system multi-tasks and copes with power without losing performance in its sleek interface. The lack of an external battery is probably the biggest flaw and will result in external battery extenders which will tarnish the Vita's attractiveness.?

Other flaws are based on the memory pricing, which is ridiculous. I can?t help but feel that Sony did this deliberately to milk profit from Vita-based products at launch. For one, the card looks an awful lot like the now-redundant M2 Memory sticks which really infuriates me knowing full-well that 4 GB of memory shouldn't cost ?20. However, if you buy a PlayStation Vita in the first week, Sony promises to bundle a 8GB Memory stick with its shiny new console providing consumers pre-order it from local retailers. Another bad point is the fact that these memory cards can only hold one PSN account, which means that sharing the console with family member isn?t as practical as it is for the PS3.?

Despite hidden costs, Sony has managed to deliver in what I would call their most enjoyable system yet. This console has no real gimmicks, it is just relevant to this day and age and offers ground-breaking portable games and software that we have naturally come to expect from developers. This is a must-buy and I for one think that the price is just right for what you get.

For those who can't afford the system or are still sitting on the fence, the recent bout of poor Japanese sales could indicate a price cut is on its way soon. Given the features and specs alone, this system would sell like hot cakes at a lower price, so look out for reductions in future months.

Consider visiting your dentist to ask him or her if you can use a home gel for whitening your teeth. Your dentist will create a special tray that hugs your teeth, and you will wear the gel-filled mouthpiece for a few hours every night, generally for two or three weeks. This method should lighten your teeth about 8 shades.

Use teeth whitening pens to make your teeth whiter. The gel is almost like a bleach, so be careful when you use it. Try to be careful and do not overuse it.

The correct toothbrush can make all the difference. Talk to your dentist and figure out the best toothbrush type for you to use.

Try to stay away from foods and drinks that are dark, they are more likely to stain teeth. Even fruits that are good for you, like raspberries and blueberries, will leave stains on your teeth. Coffee and soda can also stain your teeth. This is an excellent preventative method for you to use.

Avoid smoking. Smoking can affect not only your body, but also your smile. In fact, one of the most obvious signs that someone is a smoker is their yellow teeth. If you smoke, and want to keep your teeth white, the task is difficult. Cutting back, if you cannot quit, can also help both your health and your appearance.

Always drink water after you have food or drink coffee. This will help keep residue from staining your teeth. This will help you avoid stains that are difficult to get off your teeth.

One of the most effective methods of keeping your teeth white is by scheduling regular appointments with your dentist to have them cleaned. If you have your teeth cleaned professionally, you can get rid of a lot of stains and tartar that happen over a period of time. This will not only help to whiten your smile, but it will also help to keep it free of gum disease and cavities.

If you are serious about whitening your teeth, consider using an electric toothbrush. Electric toothbrushes clean teeth well and are better at stain removal than manual toothbrushes. They are very beneficial in removing the yellowness that seems embedded in your teeth.

Always sip some water when you are drinking dark beverages like coffee, red wine and tea. Drinking these kinds of beverages regularly will quickly stain your teeth. By rinsing your mouth with water while consuming these products, any stain producing residue will be washed away quite quickly rather than having a chance to do damage. Of course another stain prevention technique you can use is brushing your teeth afterwards.

Do not use the highly acidic juice from limes and lemons to whiten your teeth. This is not true as the juice of these fruits will erode the protective enamel on your teeth. Both lemons and limes contain citric acid which can breakdown enamel, and can actually cause tooth discoloration.
